For those who didn't see that episode of The Simpsons, it was also called the Calgary Comic & Entertainment Expo. Wow. I've never been to one of these events before. I was underdressed, what I mean is, I was dressed like myself. Admittedly, so were lots of people. Dressed like themselves I mean, not dressed like me. Quite a lot of people were in costume, I saw several Boba Fetts, a stormtrooper, and a rather "healthy" Xena Warrior Princess. There was also a Darth Maul, which was funny since the guy who actually played Darth Maul in the movie was one of the guests. We had other reasons for going though. We met Adria-Inara and we met Mrs. Reynolds. Which was cool. They were really friendly and commiserated with me over the end of Drive. In fact they mentioned the fact that they had to call "Nathan" (Nathan Fillion!) to discuss it. Christina Hendricks complimented me on my Perez Hilton shirt. She even asked where I bought it, so I was only too happy to tell her where Perez could be found. Morena Baccarin was also kind enough to pose with me and my partially knitted sock. It's Sweet Georgia's colourway "Firefly", you see. (Pair 23, Jaywalkers again.)
There was a funny story re: said sock. After we had done the sock pose thing, we wandered past this booth manned by 2 boys. One accosted me and apropos of nothing, started to tell me how he and his friend (I'm paraphrasing here) were geeks and how they were weird. I said "I may be weirder than you." "Oh?" "Yes, I just had my picture taken with Morena Baccarin and my half knitted sock." There was a silence and then I made my exit. I win!
Anyhoo... my big thrills of the day... The Doctor from Star Trek Voyager. He was really friendly too. He shook my hand and we had our picture taken with him. (I shook hands with The Doctor! The Doctor!) Guess who else I saw!? Just guess... THE INFUCKINGCREDIBLE HULK that's who. Oh yeah! He is gigantic. When we first got there we went to his booth first but he was just leaving. In order to do so, he had to walk past me. His armpit is at the top of my head and he's got the biggest bloody hands I have ever seen. He signed a picture for me but I was too in awe of him to take his photo. He is the Incredible Hulk, after all. There was a guy ahead of us in line who was signing with him which I thought was pretty cool. So did he. They had a little silent chat together that was fascinating to watch. I wish I could "speak" sign language.
I got this cool looking Frankensteiny Mickey Mouse keychain as a charm for my knitting bag. It rocks the free world. And Rush is coming to town. I am in Nerd-Topia. (I have discovered through my reading of Douglas Coupland's Microserfs that Rush is the nerd band of choice.) And yes, I want to go and see Rush. I love Rush and I refuse to feel shamed for it.
I regret nothing!! (Not even copying the sock thing from the Yarn Harlot.)
Ha! The boy just bellowed for me to "come & see this", "this" being The Simpsons. Which episode? Why Bi-Mon-Sci-Fi-Con, of course. The part where the cylon is beating up C3P0. All is serene in the universe.
Klaatu Verata Nicto. Ha! Live Long & Prosper.

I feel like I have stepped into an alternate universe, and I definitely don't speak the language!!!!
May I translate anything pour vous?
Well, flight by night the fuck away from here - what a surreal Sunday you experienced!!

Carry on!
(CRRU)
"Well Maggie Muggins, all in all, you had quite a day!!!"
You're too young to know what that means. And, sad to say, I might be too old to understand what you are saying! : )
I am totally enjoying getting to know you!
Love Auntie M
In hindsight I have to say I am absolutely NOT TOO OLD to know what you're talking about! It's just that I have never been into Sci-Fi. There. That feels better.
Auntie M
