Sooo
I had to go in to work this morning. My big plan was to have The Boy drop me off and then I would ride the bike home. It was raining this morning but I decided to persevere because I HAVE A GOAL. Then I looked out the window at work. It was snowing. But I still thought I would ride home because a) it wasn't sticking to the ground and b) I really should. Then at 11, I looked again and it was sticking so I changed my mind because if anyone is going to fall, it will be me. I called The Boy & said the mission needed to be scrubbed. I refused to have any dealings with the window after that. Imagine my annoyance when I opened the door to The Boy an hour later and the snow was gone. GRRRRRR.

Calves for Cancer...a long overdue post
Everyone who knows me knows about the demon calves. For those who don't, here is some background. I am short. I have small feet. I have no ankles and I have a pair of utterly insane calves. When I was in really good shape, they measured 18.5" at the widest part. I am built like a wee brick sh&thouse. They have been a source of irritation and frustration especially after days of trying to find a pair of tall, black dressy boots that every other woman in the world seems to have. I have decided however, that instead of being my nemesis, they are going to be my superpower. I shall explain...
In September, my friend Mizz Bananie said that she was going to participate in the 2010 Ride to Conquer Cancer. I was intrigued and I asked her if she had more information. In addition to being an amazing human, Mizz Bananie is a mind reader. She asked if I wanted to join her. I said "yes". My grandfather died of cancer and 2 of The Boy's grandparents have had it or had flirtations with it. Then I thought about it a bit more and came up with a disturbingly long list of people who have had it or lost someone to it. I also had a list of people who have fought it and won. I would like to help make this list longer than the first one. I signed up.
The next day Mizz B. and I rode 25km. That was my longest ride ever. With some help from my friends and my new superpower, I hope to ride even further...
I'll be writing about my progress & training here. If you want to help me make my list longer you can support my ride here.
Thank you to everyone who's helped me already and will help me in the future.
You all rock the free world!

I'm not quite dead...
I'm feeling much better. I think I'll go for a walk now...
It's been a long time. At least my knitting counter has an accurate picture of what I've been up to. :-)
We did get ourselves summat new here at Casa ALK. Now we is consumerist bastids.

Scary eh?
We went out & saw a few planes:

I saw a job I'd really like.

We went up t'North.

I found a jellyfish.

Clearly not up North... those are heron footprints. Herons are cool. They also were not up North.

Hmmm
I had salad and cherub covered almonds for dinner. It was partially healthy anyway...
Dear Opal, why did you not see fit to design a yarn for my beloved Neville in your Harry Potter collection? He's my favourite character and I can't be the only person who thinks so.

Nerdy Fun '09
We went to the Comic Expo again.
We found something to do on my birthday! Sadly there were no tickets left in the splatter zone.. :-( We shall make do. My name is Ash, and this is my boom stick. I cannot wait.
I met Neville Longbottom! He's lovely. The Boy met Kaylee. Apparently she's lovely too. I tried to kinnear her giving him her autograph but was stopped by security. Seriously. There was shirtiness involved.
I found a new band! Kyle says we have pretty money.
I found Stargate patches & Star Trek patches for my knitting bag. Yay!! I bought my sister something. She's going to plotz. Hee.

MMMMMM
I ordered some yarn from Easy Knits a month ago. I've got it & I love it, it's so soft and squashy that I am tempted to use it as a pillow tonight. Look!

Lurvley, innit? You need some. We all need some. Get the newsletter, it comes with recipes too. They sound delicious.
